Staged only eight times, the Dragon’s Back Race® has acquired near mythical status in the adventure racing and running community. The event was first held in 1992.
Already regarded as the world’s toughest mountain race, the Dragon’s Back Race® was extended from five to six days in 2021, increasing the distance covered from 315km to 380km, and height climbed from 15,500m to 17,400m. Participants start at Conwy Castle and then embark on an incredible journey down the whole spine of Wales, finishing in the grounds of Cardiff Castle.
You can also sign up with the intention of running the new ‘Hatchling course’. This still presents a fantastic challenge and some awesome days of running – allowing more participants to experience this legendary race through Wales. This added flexibility also allows participants to be officially recognised if they start the full course but end up completing the Hatchling course instead; all participants who cross the finish line at Cardiff Castle will be involved in the prize ceremony, with a Dragon Hatchling trophy awaiting those who have made it there on the new Hatchling course.
Participants can choose Trees Not Tees instead of a tee at registration.
